Why Cutting The Minimum Wage is Ludicrous…

(1) The Government doesn’t pay ANYONE the minimum wage so it has no impact on current public spending

(2) There is no security of tenure @ the minimum wage as it is of a “casual” nature (as correctly highlighted by Michael Noonan). This idea that “existing contracts will not be affected” is just a joke – I imagine that mercenary employers are likely to terminate and then re-hire at the lower rate;  there tends to be no labour representation at this level either

(3) Cutting the job-seekers rate AND cutting the minimum wage will not incentivise people to move from one to the other – why not keep the minimum wage at it is and get some people back into the labour force?

I see no sense or logic at either the micro or macro level to this.

To the lions for this Government…
