I could never understand why the James Gandon-designed Custom House is not a centre-piece of the tourist offering within Dublin. It is one of the best examples of his work; surely it is not beyond the whit of us all to open it up?

We should look at:

 – moving the DoE into a high-spec modern office block near one of the rail stations and use the Custom House for a high-quality public installation

– closing the North Quays from Butt Bridge to Talbot Bridge – traffic can easily be routed around Beresford Place

– connecting the CH building to the quay-front again

Imagine what that would do for the area between O’Connell St and Custom House Quay?
