Dublin City Council Update
Dublin North Central
Notice from Dublin City Council Strategic Policy Committee on Litter
NUI Maynooth is currently working on developing a reporting solution on the use of litter bins.
The hope is to develop a system whereby Dublin City Council can monitor the frequency of emptying, and weights of litter in bins. Decisions on resource allocation can be made with this data.
The proposed solution is that a computational power device called a ZigBee will be attached to existing litter bins. The system is similar to, but a less expensive option than Bluetooth. It transmits a message wirelessly to a reader in the collection van. Data can then be transmitted wirelessly from the van to a central location where reports are generated.
The project is currently at the developmental stage. However the City Council is hopeful that a small pilot project can be developed and put in place at minimal cost before the end of the year.
