Got word yesterday that the planning application by W.S.M. Partnership for a 100-bed maternity hospital on the Howth Road was refused by An Bord Pleanala.
Permission was refused because:
- The application was considered over-development of the site in the context of the surrounding Z1/Z2 zoning and it would conflict with residential land use
- The parking demands generated by the facility over and above that provided would have a negative impact on the surrounding area
- General impact on the area caused by the people and traffic movements generated by a 24-hour facility were considered severe.
Interesting to note that the Bord’s own Inspector recommended that permission be given but this was overturned by the Bord.
