Relevant information in the current climate…:

• There are 2,700 km of water mains in the Dublin City Council area and 7,000km in the Dublin Region
• 800km of the 2,700km in the Dublin City Council area is over 100 years old
• Approx 55km will be replaced this year with approx 140km to be replaced in 2012 – all subject to funding of course
• Cost of 1km of replacement is between €400k and €500k with 90% of the funding provided by the DoE
• Leakage rate across the Dublin Region is approx 30%
