Update on River Tolka Pedestrian/ Cycle Bridge – Ó’Muiri

Dublin City Council wishes to give notice that it intends to initiate the process leading to an application under Part 8 of the Local Government Planning & Development Regulations 2001 for a new Pedestrian / Cycle Bridge across the River Tolka adjacent to East Wall Road.

Variation No. 49 of the Dublin City Development Plan 2005 – 2011 was adopted in January 2010 and included the provision of the Tolka River Pedestrian / Cycle Bridge as a specific objective of the Plan.

The proposed pedestrian / cycle bridge will provide continuity of the Premium Cycle Route over the River Tolka from West Road at the junction with East Wall Road on the south side of the river to Fairview Park on the north side and up to Alfie Byrne Road. The route can then link up to the existing segregated cycleway (S2S) on the eastern side of the Alfie Byrne Road and continue to Clontarf / Sutton.

The proposed bridge will be provided to the west of the existing East Wall Railway Viaduct and the existing footbridge. The bridge will be a single fixed span structure spanning from adjacent to the footpath on the East Wall Road to the existing footway in Fairview Park. The span and soffit level shall be subject to the approval of the Office of Public Works (OPW).

The proposed structure will be fabricated from steel hollow sections with steel deck and a waterproofing and slip resistant surface supported on reinforced concrete end supports. It is proposed that surface water drainage will be discharged to the local existing road drainage system.
