I canvassed for Shane McEntee in the 2005 bye-election in Meath (when Ciaran Byrne got bitten by a dog). I didn’t know him well but he was always unfailingly kind and courteous whenever I met him – a real gentleman. He will be greatly missed. Ar dheis De go raibh do anam Shane.

I could never understand why the James Gandon-designed Custom House is not a centre-piece of the tourist offering within Dublin. It is one of the best examples of his work; surely it is not beyond the whit of us all to open it up?
